Story of Tulsi Cursed By Ganesha: Why not to worship Ganpati with Tulsi leaves.......

Aum Namah Shivaya.......

There was one story related to Tulsi cursed by Lord Ganesha. The daughter of Dharma raja, Tulsi had a great devotion towards god Narayana in her youthful days. She has spent most of her time in the world of ecstatic devotion. Tulsi has encountered the banks of river sacred Ganga, on her way. She was having a best of her time with the nature’s beauty. The entire way was filled with the scenic sights. Tulsi came across the ashram surrounded with the fragrant flowers and plants. There was a cool breeze prevailing around the surrounding area of the entire ashram.

Tulsi had seen Ganesha in the ashram and he was in the complete devotion towards Lord Krishna. He was dressed in the beautiful red silks and was immersed in the great devotion. Tulsi was impressed with the Ganesha and requested him to marry her. She had great respect and was committed to marry him. Ganesha had completely turned down the proposal. At that time, he was a bachelor.

Ganesha was looking for a girl who had possessed the divine qualities of her mother, Parvati. He said to Tulsi that he was least interested in the marriage proposal.

On hearing this, Tulsi could not digest the news. Tulsi was extremely angry and started cursing Ganesha. Tulsi replied to Ganesha “You shall surely marry”. Ganesha on return responded “You too shall get married but to an asura”. There after you shall be cursed to be born as a plant by the wise men”. Tulsi after realizing her mistake pleaded for mercy and extolled Ganesha with the divine hymns.

Ganesha had relented that she shall be born as a plant and will inherit the essence of all the fragrance. Therefore she has reassured that all the gods would be extremely happy with her fragrance. Moreover, the god Hari would be especially glad to receive the worship with her leaves. But for worshipping god Ganesha these leaves would not be acceptable. Ganesha had left the place by saying this few instructions to Tulsi. Finally, Ganesha went to Badarikashrama.
